"The
Media has a crucial responsibility in the peaceful spreading of ideas.
In addition to being professionals who reveal the truth, journalists provide
the public with elements to interpret war and peace events. Based on these
elements, the public adopts an attitude towards events that may offend
their sensibility, cause anxiety among them, or fill them with optimism.
I appeal to the journalists' conscience to keep in mind that, when writing
about the misfortunes suffered in the war or the hopes of peace, they
are talking to the Colombian people about what pains them most, and at
the same time, what raises their highest hopes".
