CREDHOS - Regional Corporation for the Defense of Human Rights

CREDHOS, the Regional Corporation for the Defense of Human Rights (Corporación Regional para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos) was established in 1987 as an instrument for sensibilisation and opening of social spaces for humanitarian work and for defending human rights of the people of Barrancabermeja and Magdalena Medio. In 1993 it received funding from the European Union to undertake a three year project in the areas of law, education, communication and solidarity.

As a recognition to the work of CREDHOS, in 1994 the international community formalised its support with the arrival of the International Peace Brigades. Their support continues today. In the face of a worsening humanitarian crisis and deteriorating living conditions among inhabitants of the Magdalena Medio, this initiative was complemented by funding and political support from the Anglo-Irish cooperation agency Christian AID.

The Rafael Pombo Foundation and the Hands to Peace project

The Rafael Pombo Foundation is a non govermental organization, created in 1985 to contribute to the formation of children by integrating their creativity and their cultural points of reference in an educational project that promotes a culture of their rights and duties, based on a living relation between literature, participation and their daily lives.

The Foundation, the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace, UNICEF and other allied entities at the national and municipal levels, agreed to contribute towards peace through networks in favour of peaceful coexistence and peaceful conflict resolution, with the support of the Investment for Peace Fund of the Plan Colombia within the Hands on Peace project. This project provides children an opportunity to identify human and children rights in everyday life, breaking away from traditional discourse. It has managed to mobilise human resources and educational materials towards 46 municipalities in armed conflict zones, benefiting about 202.887 people.
