CINEP researchers

The second special judge of Bogotá passed sentence on six individuals for the murder of CINEP researchers Mario Calderón and Elsa Alvarado, and Elsa's father, Carlos Alvarado, which took place on May 19, 1997. The actual perpetrators, Juan-Carlos González and Walter-José Alvarez, were sentenced to 60 and 45 year's imprisonment respectively. Pablo Vanderley-Vargas and Gabriel-Jaime Alvarez were given 55 and 20 month's imprisonment respectively for complicity. Other defendants were acquitted. The case against those who instigated these crimes is still pending.
