Christian Center for Justice, Peace
and non-Violent Action, Justapaz

Justapaz is an NGO formed by the Mennonite Evangelical Church in Colombia and was founded in 1990 to defend human rights. Its mission is to encourage non-violence, the peaceful solution of conflict and the building of peace at local, regional, national and international levels. Justapaz has supported community initiatives for the respect for and constant observance of human rights and the peaceful solution of conflict, as well as training activities and the strengthening of skills and structure for peace-building through conciliation centers and the preparation of instructive materials. It has also been engaged in the question of conscientious objection to military service.

Justapaz has advanced projects such as the Centers for Conciliation and Analysis of Conflict, the Training Program for Equity Conciliators and Mediators; Training for community leaders in mediation and comprehensive peace-building; the network for community justice and the treatment of conflict; and the network for the management, solution and peaceful transformation of conflict, amongst others.


Program for Peace - Society of Jesus

The Program for Peace began in 1987 and is an institutional activity of the Jesuit order which works for society, the Church and its Province in Colombia to create conditions for peace to be based on social justice with a negotiated solution to conflict. It works to defend human rights and the construction of a lasting, just and stable peace, trying to for public opinion in favor of conciliation, reconciliation and political negotiation, supporting the strengthening of the social movement for peace and educating for peaceful coexistence. It also accompanies all the other work of the Society of Jesus in favor of peace. The Program has supported more than 150 grass-roots organizations in education for peace, the movement for peace, public opinion and Jesuit initiatives for peace.

The Program for Peace has advanced a number of projects in association with other organizations , including the Process for the Formation of Creativje Youth in San Pablo, Bolivar, which uses a formative and artistic approach with permanent accompaniment in issues such as the treatment of conflict, dignity, equality, freedom and the respect for life. The Project for Implementation of the Pedagogical Proposal for Education for Peace in Barrancabermeja, Santander, in an alliance with the Popular Education Movement Fe y Alegria, seeks to impart deeper knowledge in education for peace. And the project "Peace Schools", created in 1997 with the Life, Justice and Peace of Pastoral Social´s National Office, studies areas of armed conflict, political culture and human rights in Popayan, Medellin and Cali, amongst others.
