PortraitHumanitarian agreements on anti-personnel landmines

"The Colombian government determinedly waves the flag of International Humanitarian Law, as a mechanism for moderating the effects of the conflict on the civilian population. One of the greatest challenges that we face in this area is to persuade the armed protagonists in the conflict to keep civilians out of the hostilities. Also, to persuade civilians to avoid polarization, which do the armed protagonists promote. It causes the break-up of communities and decreases the chances of humanizing the conflict. The government has expressed its will to work hard on these issues, and once again calls upon the illegal armed protagonists to abide by the rules laid down in Protocol II and common article three of the Geneva Conventions. It is about time that the rhetoric of humanization yielded to real commitment".
